Introduction to using the Matics solution running on a computer's browser

Introduction

Matics real-time manufacturing analytics is a robust factory floor management solution that provides a smart way of digitally streamlining the production journey for improved efficiency and easier management. It is designed as a suite of smart connected applications tailored to the needs of each stakeholder from management to line workers, planners, technicians, and quality control managers with an intuitive and user-friendly interface that facilitates collaboration across groups. It comprises the Web app, the Manager app and the Operator app. The Web app is the solution's core app through which the digital twins of entities in your factory such as machines, molds, and users are set up, monitored, analyzed and managed.

In this article we'll go over the Web app's main interface.

App's organizational structure

Each page in the app will be embedded within a persistent frame that provides the main menu, homing links, and basic controls. The content of the frame changes per the active context.

  1. Expand / collapse main menu: expand to include the category names, or collapse to maximize the work area

  2. Go to Home page

  3. Set current page as Home page

  5. Open the tasks panel

  6. Open the Matics knowledge base

  7. Open the Profile dialog, to edit your (the signed-in user's) profile

  8. Log out of the system

  9. Open the Help bot for contacting Matics support and for searching the knowledge base for information.

What do I get with the app?

The main menu reflects the modules your license includes.

Production floor

This module is described below. It's for online management of the production floor in real time.

Products, jobs, resources

These modules are for managing and viewing production objects such as products, molds and jobs. Data for these objects can be imported to the system, or entered manually.

Work management tools

Tasks & Rules

Tools for managing tasks and automating workflows.

Targets Management

Targets and standards need to be set so the system will be able to indicate through its various analytics components how performance meets these goals.

You can also create dashboards of custom KPIs for ongoing monitoring of specific standards.

Setup, settings & data sync

Using data modeling of production, the various entities involved in production are set up in a way that reflects logical hierarchies and dependencies.

The implementation team mirrors your site's machine types, machines, departments, user roles, stop event reasons, production statuses and more as digital entities and objects in the Matics system.

The Setup steps are for creating the infrastructure, Data Sync is used for importing data from external systems into Matics, and Settings is used for user management and other settings, such as managing stop-event reasons and adding custom parameters.

Where do I start?

To see what's happening in real-time on your production floor, in the main menu click Production Floor.

There you have various dashboards that reflect data per different factory groupings: a chosen department's machines, all the factory's departments, all machines in your site in a flat structure (no grouping). At these different levels there are common dashboards and other dashboards that are applicable only to that level and grouping.
For example, the Online dashboard is available for each of these groupings, while the Production Progress dashboard applies to the All Machines grouping only.

Managing the department in real time

If you're the shift manager, most likely you'd be interested in the Department View dashboards: Online, Shift and Insights.

Online

The purpose of the Online dashboard is to show the machines' status in real time, and the job it is currently running. The tiles of all the department's machines are shown in a single view that you can customize. Machine tiles in the department view can be presented in two different modes, one is the larger tile, which provides more space to present metrics and more controls for performing actions. Shift

The purpose of the Shift dashboard is to show real-time shift analytics from the beginning of the shift up to the current point in time, which provides an aggregated perspective of performance. Analytic sets are packaged as components from which you can choose. For example, there's a component that shows machine performance throughout the shift per selected parameters. These components aid managers in "winning the shift" -- use these components to make data-based decisions of what actions to take and when.
Another management tool in this dashboard is the manager control panel which shows what communication has been going on during the shift. In this panel you can see the opened service calls and the notifications that were sent.

You can further expand your perspective by comparing the current shift's performance to preceding shifts' performance if needed.

Insights

Analysis of past data can provide important insights to how your production floor works and points to patterns and other types of data extrapolations. Analytic sets with specific focuses are packaged as Insights in Matics. Insights render the information in easy-to follow-visual formats such as tables, graphs, and waterfall charts to help you identify trends and reach conclusions. There is an extensive library of Insights to choose from, and finding relevant Insights is quickly done by entering search words, for example 'OEE'. Chosen Insights can be added to templates for sharing with other users. This ensures effective communication of the ongoing analyses as part of procedural management routines.

Managing the factory in real time

If you're a site manager, or fill any other role in which the overall Factory View is important, at this level you'll have the Online, Shift, Insights, Process Control and Custom KPIs dashboards.

Online

In the factory view, all the factory's machines are grouped by departments so you see the aggregation of machines' current status per department.

Insights

As mentioned above, Insights analyze past data of an extended time span for learning about trends and reaching conclusions.

In factory view, the insight will apply to all the factory's data.

Process Control

Process control charts are used for examining processes by visually rendering parameter measurements in line graphs.
Comparing the measurements of different parameters on the same machine, and comparing between the measurements of the same parameter on different machines provides you with essential, ongoing, contextual information that helps you control the processes in your site.

Custom KPIs

Custom KPIs are the answer for tracking additional key performance indicators (KPIs) that are not standard OEE KPIs, or when you need to customize a standard KPI to fine-tune measurements.

All machines view

If you fill any role in which the overall view for all machines is important (regardless of the machines' grouping) you'll have the Online, Production Progress, Process Control and Custom KPIs dashboards available in this All Machines view.

Online

The tiles of all the factory's machines show the machines' status in real time, the job it is currently running and main parameters. It is a single view for all machines, which is often used as the "TV view" projected to a large monitor on the production floor.

Production progress

Production progress is a very important metric and there are various ways to view it throughout the system.
The emphasis of this page is viewing your planning vs. actual/expected performance for all machines in the factory.
