What are notifications for?
Notifications alert specific users--or groups of users--to something they should be aware of as soon as possible, usually in order to take action. They're very helpful in managing the production site as they bring to your attention both exceptional incidents, as well as routine reminders that might otherwise slip your mind.
Common production-floor use cases include:
Alerting about certain types of malfunctions or extended setups
Alerting when there's a deviation in the product/job recipe's set parameters
Scheduling specific reminders
Notifications are based on preconfigured rules that automatically generate these alerts when the conditions set in the rule are fulfilled. For example:
Notifications are delivered to their intended audience as push messages (most effective medium) via the Manager app, they are also logged and managed in a dedicated Notifications panel in both the Manager app and Web app.
Notifications are different from messages mainly in that they target users, not machines. Also, they serve to alert, not communicate.
Enabling push notifications
On iPhones
In the phone's app settings, enable notifications for the Matics app.
For example:In the Matics Manager app tap More (...) > Settings.
In the NOTIFICATIONS section tap the site's name.

In the Departments section select for which departments and machines notifications are enabled.
Here's an example walkthrough of setting for which topics and machines notifications will be issued. (The device is an iPhone, so there may be slight variations on Android devices.)
Managing notifications
Matics Manager app
Getting there: Tap the notifications control in the bottom menu. The number of unread notifications will be indicated in a red marker on the bell.
Group the notifications to organize them (optional): You can group notifications by machine, or topic (for those using the older type of notifications), using the group-by control. A blue check-marked dot on this control indicates that the current grouping is not the default (by topic) grouping.
Unread notifications: The number of unread notifications is indicated in a red marker on the notifications control in the bottom menu. Scrolling through the list of notifications will change the status of notifications from unread (indicated with a small blue dot on the left side of the notification) to read, and adjust the count of unread notifications.
You can mark all notifications as read by tapping the actions menu on the right and choosing Mark all notifications as read.Filtering notifications: Tap the filter control to alternate between your topic-based notification settings to no filtering at all.
Selected Notifications - means that topic-based settings are applied, which filters notifications per the criteria you set there.
Rule-based notifications are presented as well. All Notifications - means that your topic-based filtering settings are ignored (even if you disabled topic-based notifications entirely) and all notifications are displayed.
Deleting notifications:
To delete an individual notification, swipe left and tap Delete.
To delete all notifications, tap the actions menu on the right and choose Delete all notifications.
Reminders: Tap the reminder control to snooze the notification for 5, 30, or 60 minutes. This will push the notification again when the snooze time ends.
Matics Web app
Notifications are logged in a tab within the Shift's control panel.
Getting there:
Group the notifications to organize them (optional): You can group notifications by machine, or topic (for those using the older type of notifications), using the group-by control.
Notifications count: The count of notifications for the current shift is indicated in a blue circle at the top of the Notifications panel.
Topic-based notifications settings: Click the Settings icon to choose which topics and/or sub-topics to present notifications for. This lets you focus on specific types of notifications (the notifications count is updated accordingly). Note that this does not affect notifications generated by rules.
Clearing notifications: At the start of a new shift the panel is reset to clear the notification content of the previous shift.
