Worker Cost Management

Adding worker cost data to job tracking

What is worker cost management for?

Want to know how many workers are really needed for carrying out a job, and which worker combinations work best? Use the worker cost management options to compare performance with cost efficiency.

Start by adding the worker types and the cost of work-per-hour for each type. Then set the worker standards, which is how many workers of each worker type are required for producing the product. These worker standards are reflected in each job for producing this product.

In the production-floor reality, the required amount of workers is not always available, so you should enter the actual number of workers and their type for accurate data aggregation. Worker cost data are available in several contexts for monitoring and analysis. Aggregated worker cost data, combined with performance indicators, together will provide you with valuable information for optimal staffing of production lines and more.

Configuring worker types and costs

  1. Go to Settings > Users Management > Worker Types.

  2. Add a new line.

    The Add new line control
  3. Fill in the fields:

    1. In Worker Type enter the way you'll identify the worker type (descriptive name, catalog ID, etc.).

    2. In Cost Per Hour enter that worker type's cost per hour.

    3. Select Is Active, otherwise this worker type won't be available for use.

    4. If you want to add a local name for this worker type, that is, translate the worker type name to any other language supported by the system, click the translation index in the Language cell and in the LanguageDictionary page that opens, enter the translation for any applicable language (don't forget to save changes).

  4. You have now added worker types and their respective cost-per-hour to the system. Continue to assign to each worker their worker type. That way when they sign in, the worker type is automatically detected.

Assigning worker types to workers

  1. Go to Settings > Users Management > Workers.

  2. For each worker select the relevant worker type.

  3. Save changes.

Where are worker standards set?

Worker standards can be set in multiple contexts:

  • Machine Type

  • Product

  • Job

The Workers Standards table (see below) is identical in all contexts. Whatever was set at the machine-type level is inherited automatically to the product and job, and standards set at the product level will also inherit automatically to the job level. Any inherited worker standards can be changed. The system will use the worker standards set at the job level for reporting and analysis.

How are worker standards set?

  1. Open the Workers Standards tab.

    • Machine type level: Setup > Site Configuration > Step 5 - Define machine types > index of target machine type.

    • Product level: Production > Products > index of target product, or access the product from other locations such as the Online dashboard for products currently in production.

    • Job context: Jobs > Jobs Report > index of target job, or access the job from other locations such as the Online dashboard for currently running jobs.

  2. Set how many workers of each worker type are needed for producing the product.

  3. Save changes.

Entering the actual number of workers and their type

You can enter the actual number of workers both from the Web app and the Operator app.

Web app

  1. Open the job and click Efficiency.

  2. Click the index of the job in that shift (Josh).

  3. Click Workers Cost.

  4. For each worker type enter the number of workers that actually worked/are working that shift.

  5. Save changes.

Operator app

Note: Prerequisite for entering workers in the Operator app is enabling the Show Workers Table check box at the machine level.

Operators are workers/users that have a set worker type. So when an operator signs in, the count of that worker type adjusts automatically to include the signed-in operator.

There's also an option of entering manually the current count of workers. This is particularly useful when not all workers sign in, and when there are workers who are not registered in the system. To do so:

  1. Tap the edit control in the Actual Workers cell for the relevant worker type.

  2. Enter the current count of this type of worker, who are working on the job.

  3. Tap the confirm control (the blue circle with a check mark).

Tracking in real-time worker costs

On what is real-time tracking of worker costs based?

There are a number of places in which you can track in real-time worker costs and how many workers are working on the job in the current shift. The information is pulled by these two machine parameters:

  • Workers Josh Cost

  • Workers Quantity

Workers Josh Cost is the aggregated result of number of workers multiplied by hourly cost multiplied by how much time they've worked in current shift.
For example, 2 general workers who cost 20 USD per hour and 2 subcontractors who cost 22 USD per hour have been working 5 hours so far on this job, the calculation is:
[(2 * 20) + (2 * 22)] * 5 = 420 USD.

Workers Quantity (Required workers) counts the number of workers in the current shift who are working on the job, and also presents the set worker standard, to enable comparing between the two values. Note that the workers quantity doesn't show a breakdown per worker type. Also note that fractions of workers are possible, since you may have a worker who is operating multiple machines.

Tracking worker cost in real-time via the Web app

  • To do so, add these parameters (Workers Josh Cost, Workers Quantity/Required Workers) to machine tiles in the Online dashboard.

Tracking worker cost in real-time via the Manager app

If the Workers Josh Cost and Workers Quantity parameters were added to the Manager app's Online report (Web app > Settings > Mobile Screens Customization), you'll see the information in the Manager app's Online page.

Tracking worker cost in real-time via the Operator app

If the Workers Josh Cost and Required workers parameters were added to the tablet's main dashboard (Web app > Settings > Tablet Screens Customization), you'll see the information in the Workers Josh Cost and Required workers widgets.

Analyzing worker costs and performance

Go to Reports > System Reports > 4 - History report type > 51 - Completed shift details with workers.

You can either filter and sort the table within the system, or export it to Excel and create a pivot table to analyze worker cost and more.
