The Job Life Cycle Tree is a schematic diagram that represents interrelated production activities that resulted from the same original job.

Getting there

From the Jobs Report:

  1. Jobs > Jobs Report > the system will return a search form.

  2. Click Search. The system will return the full list of jobs in all stages.

  3. Filter the list to find the job.

  4. Select the row's check box for that job.

  5. Click the tree view icon located above the table.

From the Jobs form:

Clicking the job link that's available in various system contexts, for example in the machine's cube in the online dashboard, opens that job's form. In the job form, click the Job Life Cycle Tree tab.

Purpose

The Job Life Cycle Tree diagrams the production activities that went into an ERP Job and can help planners understand if an ERP Job was produced in one run, or was split because of a breakdown, a tight schedule or other constraints.

The tree is also the most convenient interface for planning activities:

  • It shows the current production status of each job

  • It shows the overall production progress for the original job against the original target. It also provides a breakdown of the contributions from every run to the overall production.

  • The tree allows users to manage jobs, by carrying out job actions directly in the tree interface. The node of every job is an action menu that can be used to activate or cancel the job, split it or change its machine assignment, or update its target production or ERP identifier.

  • Hot links help users navigate smoothly between associated jobs or reach their job recipe screens directly.

Information represented in the tree

  • Job Sequence is represented by the tree's flow direction: the original job is shown as the "root" with subsequent jobs shown in their order of creation.

  • Production Status is color-coded in the tree.

  • Progress relative to the production target is shown as a progress bar.
Progress to target is shown for the particular run in 2 ways:
    - A progress bar represents the relative progress as a percentage
    - The exact amount produced and the target are shown numerically

Progress to target for the entire series (the original job) is shown as Total Produced.
In the example below Job #6121 was suspended mid-production and then restarted as Job #6126, which is presently active on the production floor. (The colors indicate the job status.)
In total, 3566 of 8333 units have been produced: 2668 were produced by the first job, and another 898 by the second run, which is currently in production.

  • Configuration jobs are indicated by the stacked paper icon (you can see this icon in the circles' top part of the above graphic).
Switch between jobs for each of the parts produced together in a configuration using the side-panel.

Job actions

The quickest way to apply job actions in the Web app is using the Job Life Cycle Tree. Each job in the tree has an action menu in its node with relevant options:

  • Activate a job - it is always best to use the Operator App to activate a job. But you can use the Job Lifecyle Tree when the need arises.

  • Change machine - transfer a job from one work-station to another, usually following a break-down or another problem.

  • Split a job - when a job needs to be redistributed among machines.

  • Cancel a job - when a job needs to be cancelled for whatever reason (jobs can't be deleted, but cancelling a job is the functional equivalent)

  • Suspend a Job - temporarily discontinue work with the intention of completing it later. Use this option when a job must be interrupted mid-production. The job will be suspended as long as it has not fulfilled its production targets. It will be returned to the Job Queue so it can be completed at a later time.

Update job details

  1. Click anywhere on the colored part of the job. The side-panel opens.

  2. There you can change the ERP Job ID.

  3. Click Save Changes.
