Job Definitions

Creating job type tags and leveraging them in different contexts

Updated over 2 years ago

What are job definitions?

A job definition is a built-in custom parameter for defining job types. Jobs are then tagged with this job type. There are two main benefits in doing so:

  • Filtering insights to focus on specific job types

  • Marking machine tiles in Online dashboards and machine pages with the job type's color code, to signpost jobs that deserve extra attention

Job definitions are also used in the context of automatic ending of setup time.

Creating job definitions

  1. Go to Jobs > Job Definitions.

  2. Click the add icon.

    add control

  3. Configure the job type:

    1. English Name - enter a name for the job type in English.

    2. Name - if you have a local language that you use for the system enter the job type's name in that language.

    3. Color - click to open the color picker for choosing an identifying color.
Tip: Make sure it's not similar to the colors used for the machine statuses, otherwise it won't stand out.

  4. Click Save Changes.

  5. (On an as-needed basis) The Display on Online Screen check box is now available. Select it to enable indicating the job type on Online dashboards and the machine page.
Tip: Since excess dashboard information can be detrimental, select this check box only for those job types that require extra attention.

  6. If you will use job definitions for automatic end of setup time enter the number of cycles after which setup ends automatically.
To end setup immediately upon job activation enter the value of 1. This means the job will have no setup time.
Entering a value of 0, or leaving this field blank, will require ending setup manually.

  7. If needed, translate the job type's name to other languages:

    1. Click the Language index.

    2. In the translation page enter the translations.

    3. Save changes.

  8. (Optional) Configure other parameters and save changes.

Example of a job definitions page with configured job types

Tagging the job with the job type

Tag the job with the job type. Job definitions are offered as a drop-down list in the Job's General tab > Job Type field:

Filtering insights per job definition

In the Production Floor module you can filter the insight to provide analytics on specific job types.

For example, here per this filter the insight will present analytics only for the 'Samples' job type:

Where you'll find the Job Definition filter in the Insights filter menu

Colored circle dots

Job definitions provide the option of indicating in Online dashboards and machine pages the job type the machine is working on. This indicator is a small colored circle that's draws attention to jobs that should be addressed. For example, if two jobs have stopped, and one job is indicated with a high priority job-type color, you'd choose to start with investigating the high priority job. As mentioned above in Creating job definitions, it's recommended to display the job type indicator only for prioritized job types.
Job type indicators are shown in Online dashboards in both the Web app and Manager app.
(Job definitions aren't applicable to the Operator app.)

For example in the Web app (both for 'Cubes view' and 'Detailed view'):

And in the manager app:
