Tile content

Machine tiles in Online dashboards should present information that's useful for users viewing these dashboards. Different user groups may focus on different analyses per their roles. Therefore, it's good to be able to customize which data to present and change the positioning of that data within the tiles per each context. The result of these definitions is called a tile 'structure'.

Tile visuals

The visual aspects of machine tiles are also important. These include the font size and color mode, how big the tiles are and how many cells they include, and will the tiles be displayed in vertical or horizontal arrangements.

Flexible application

The visual design may apply to all groups, while the content of each tile may differ between groups, therefore applying these settings is done through separate procedures.

Also, each context has its own structure, thus the department structure set for the detailed tile view is not the same structure set for the department cube view. Notwithstanding, the settings applied to tiles in 'Cubes view' for All Machines, carry over to tiles in 'Cubes view' in Department view, and vice versa -- settings applied to tiles in 'Cubes view' for Department view, carry over to All Machines.

Who can customize tiles?

There's a clear distinction between two types of users when it comes to customizing machine tiles:

  • Users with tile administrative permissions

  • Users without these permissions

Users with tile administration permissions

  1. Design a tile structure that includes relevant parameters, arranged per priorities and other considerations, and

  2. Easily apply this layout as the default for any of the following contexts:

    • Current logged-in user

    • Selected user groups

    • Selected departments

    • Specific machines within a selected department

  3. Determine the visual settings of machine tiles for different user groups.

The scope of these permissions is all the Online displays, which are:

  • All Machines > Online dashboard machine tiles

  • Department view > Online dashboard machine tiles

  • The machine tile that's shown on each machine's page. (Tile structure can be customized at this level, but tile visual appearance cannot.)

Users without tile administration permissions

All other users that have access to these pages with machine tiles can change the tiles' content and layout for themselves by applying changes to 'My Structure'. The 'Default Structure' cannot be edited by users without tile administration permissions.

Assigning permissions

  1. Go to Setup > Site Configuration > index 4 (Step 4 - Define Users & Groups).

  2. Select the applicable user group by clicking its index number.

  3. In the group's Role form > General tab select the Default machine tile admin (Online) check box.

  4. Click Save Changes.

How to change tile structure

Note: Users without tile administration permissions cannot change the 'Default Structure', and therefore both the edit and settings controls will not be available when 'Default Structure' is in use.

All Machines - Online

  1. Go to Production Floor > All Machines > Online.

  2. In the top-right toolbar select to which user entity the changes you're about to make will apply:

    • 'My Structure' applies the changes to the current signed-in user.

    • If you have permissions, you can choose a user group from the list.

  3. Click Settings.

  4. Change the tile's visual appearance, including the number of rows and cells if needed.

  5. Click the main edit icon in the top-right toolbar.

  6. The Apply to control that's now visible on all machines indicates the machine tile is in edit mode. Within a tile, click the edit icon for each parameter and cell you want to modify and select which parameter should be used in that cell.
Different contexts offer different parameters. For example, the list of options in the top row are different than the options in the following rows.

  7. When you've finished editing the tile, click Apply to.

    1. Choose to which users the changes you made in the tile's structure should be applied:
My user - the current logged-in user
User Group - after selecting this option, click within its box and select the user group. You can select multiple user groups.

    2. Select the machines this structure applies to. You'll need to do this for each department.

    3. Click DONE. This overwrites the structure that exists for the selected users' machines, and they will now see the updated structure in their Online dashboard.

  8. Additionally, those changes that were made to the current machine are saved automatically in 'My Structure' of the current logged-in user.

Department view - Online

  1. Select to which user entity the changes you're about to make will apply:

    • 'My Structure' applies the changes to the current signed-in user.

    • If you have permissions, you can choose a user group from the list.

  2. Click the main edit icon in the machine tile.
Note: If you're using Cubes view, the edit icon is in the top toolbar. Click the icon once to enter edit mode and click it again to exit edit mode.
