Why do so?
Decoupling recipe approval from job release separates the job approval process to two steps: approving the recipe and releasing the job to production/approved for production. When this option is enabled, you can manage jobs in these two states (unapproved and unreleased).
Otherwise, approving the recipe directly releases the job (03) while jobs that haven't had their recipe approved are Unreleased Jobs (status 02).
If your job approval workflow includes two steps: one in which the recipe is approved by a technologist and only then the job is released by the planner, read on. In the following 'How to' section we'll show you where you enable the decoupling option and how you manage jobs in these two states both in the job page and the Gantt page (since you can manage jobs in these two states in either page).
How to do so?
Enable this setting
Go to Setup > Site Configuration > 5 (Step 5 - Define Machine Types).
Click the index of the target machine type.
In the General tab, select the Require Official Recipe Approval check box to enable this option and save changes.
Approve recipes & release jobs through the job page
The more efficient way to manage jobs is through the Gantt, which we described above for the decoupling context. But you can also make use of the job page to first approve and then release a job to production.
To do so:
Open the target job in status 02 that hasn't had it's recipe approved yet. (A more typical flow would be to create a new job and then continue to save it and the job will transition to status 02 - Production details.)
Click the job's Recipe tab.
Click Approve, the recipe is now approved and the control transitions from Approve to Release job.
If you go back to the General tab, you'll see that the job is still in status
02 - Production Details. When you/the planner are ready to release the job to production, click Release job. In the General tab you'll see that the job's status is now 03- Active Recipe.
Approve recipes & release jobs through the Gantt
Make sure that jobs in these two states (Unapproved-recipe jobs and Unreleased jobs with recipe approved) have different color coding, for example:
Use the action menu to quickly find those jobs that need to have their recipe approved (Select the jobs you want to approve), or jobs that have had their recipe approved and should be released (Select the jobs you want to release) to production.
For example:
